Who are you?
I'm Melody. I hail from the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, Canada. I grew up in wide open spaces with a loving (eventually two-unit) family, and the best buddy a gal could ask for: Rascal. In 2005, I adventured off to Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland. Four years, a Bachelor of Arts (English), lots of lovely debt, and a true appreciation for sunny days later, I booted myself off the island and landed in Toronto, Ontario. For the last two years I've dealt with recession woes while doing my best to learn, love, and live the city as best as I can. I'm ready for a new scene, a new culture - new people...and obviously a few extra chilly days.

Where are you?
The rocky and picturesque city of Iqaluit, Nunavut! I arrived on November 7th, 2011.
How can I reach you?
The easiest way to reach me is through Gmail, using "melodyharding8" as the username (spam be damned!). Bear in mind that once I'm north, I'll be experiencing a new culture, working at a new job, and dealing with not-quite-like-the-south internet. Please give me a few days to reply - if I don't, feel free to prod or poke me in the noggin (blunt objects only).

ReplyDeleteWe seem to be following similar paths. I lived just off of the Danforth for the year before I moved North. It's a whole 'nother world. Also, regarding your list, dont waste your time on the food, or air fresheners, glade candles and such, its all covered under your food mess with the store. I wasted money shipping stuff to myself that I could get here... and I never go over my mess. But DO loaddddd up on alcohol... even if you're not a big drinker... You'll be glad you did. I just put in a $500 order in Rankin Inlet for my booze (and I am NOT a big drinker). Trust this advice lol
ReplyDeleteI live right on Danforth now - small world :)
ReplyDeleteAir fresheners/candles/etc are covered by mess? I was told that they weren't, also no toiletries, cleaning supplies, or paper products. I'd LOVE for your clarification. ;)
Getting spices and my favourite coffee from Kensington on Wednesday - any other food stuffs that I really SHOULD get? I've been going off what I have found on blogs, but so many things are contradicting...
Oh I've already got my mind set on booze - hahaha. I'll try and get some tetrapaks of wine (especially red - wouldn't it be lovely if one broke?!), etc. once I'm in NS... I've also advised my parents that micky's of vodka/rum/etc whenever they feel like mailing me something would be wonderful...........hoping that's legal. ;)
Haha Your on the right track with the booze.
ReplyDeleteYour mess... toiletries like toothpaste and such are not covered but cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towel and such are covered. And normal candles arent covered but air freshening ones are, along with other air freshening products.
As far as eating goes, you can get almost anything you could want here.
Things I wish I had brought more of, maybe socks and panties. And if you wear heals and cute clothes down south, dont pack them all away and leave them there haha. I only brought basics and then ended up wearing running shoes and sweaters to the bars and parties until I took vacation and went shopping.
Awesome - thanks for clearing that up for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI've packed a few dresses (figured I'd want them at some point), and a few nicer tops - I don't get glitzed up often, but I'll be sure to have some choices. Thanks for the pointers. ;) Got some socks/underwear/bras this week - might pick up some more...what about hair products, makeup, etc?
Oh you're brilliant by the way - this helps soooo much.
OH OH OH - know anywhere where I can see photos of what the apartments look like? All I seem to find are photos of places GN/RCMP employees are in.
Meloddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! You made it! Congratulations! And an apartment all to yourself - awesome! Hope everything is going very well. Play safe! : )
